The CN-E20mm T1.5 L F Cinema Prime Lens

March 28, 2018

The CN-E20 T1.5 L F Cinema Prime Lens mounted of the Canon EOS C700 FF

The CN-E20 T1.5 L F lens is a brand new addition to Canon’s Cinema Prime Lens family. This lens joins the other six Cinema Prime Lenses, and is a powerful addition, now offering users a 20mm ultra-wide focal length option between our 14mm and 24mm. The Prime Lens line also features a 35mm, a 50mm, an 85mm, and a 135mm, delivering the versatility needed for a wide range of creative shooting.  This continues Canon’s tradition of high quality 4K optical performance and outstanding operability.  Canon Cinema Prime Lenses are not only compatible with Super 35mm sensor cameras, but full frame sensor cameras as well, like our newly announced Cinema EOS C700 FF, as well the EOS 5D Mark IV and EOS-1D X Mark II.

Our Cinema Prime Lenses are designed with full frame in mind.  If you have a Super 35mm camera, like the C300 Mark II, the CN-E20 can be used as an approximately 29.2mm equivalent lens.

Like the other Canon Cinema Prime Lenses, the CN-E20 inherits the superb optical image quality and characteristics that professionals demand.

• It supports 4K resolution from the center of the screen to the edges.

• From a color reproduction viewpoint, the lens produces a warm, natural-looking tone, which matches the other Canon Cinema lenses.

• An 11 blade iris produces round bokeh and soft, pleasing lens flares.

• The bright T-stop of 1.5 gives you excellent low-light performance and also allows for a shallow depth of field.

• The lens has minimal focus breathing that ensures consistent framing.

Operability is superb with Canon’s Cinema Prime Lenses and the CN-E20 is no exception. In fact, all of our Cinema Prime Lenses have the same gear position, front diameter, total length, and a 300° rotation angle with just the right amount of resistance.  These uniform specifications help ensure easy compatibility with third-party accessories like matte boxes, and the ability to quickly and conveniently switch lenses without having to make adjustments to your camera support setup.

There are also markings on both sides of the lens barrel, making it easy to read focus settings from behind or either side of the camera, and they can be switched from standard to metric depending on your need.  And to improve visibility in nighttime and dark area shooting, indicator markings with phosphorescent paint have been used on the front barrel for right-side viewing.

Depending on the camera you use, the EF mount allows the CN-E20 to communicate directly with the camera, supporting a number of functions such as ambient light and chromatic aberration correction, metadata, T-stop, and Dual Pixel focus guide.

The new CN-E20 T1.5 L F lens is an outstanding performer that fills a focal length need that many professional users have expressed to us. For those of you looking to make the move to full frame production, Canon’s line of Cinema Prime Lenses offers a wide range of creative imaging capabilities. Whether your need is documentary or independent film production, features, episodic, or commercial work, Canon’s Cinema Prime Lens family delivers the image quality, operability, and performance to achieve stunning results.
