EVENT DESCRIPTION:

Typically, we think of using a Speedlite when there is little or no light. But there are many situations in which a Speedlite can improve your pictures—even if you have plenty of available light. When photographing outdoors, for example, Speedlites let us light our subject if it’s in the shade or fill in harsh shadows created by the sun.

Among the tricks you’ll learn is how to handle a situation in which the light is so bright you’re forced to use a small aperture to control the background exposure, but then lose the ability to create shallow depth of field for a portrait. Canon Speedlites have a high-speed sync feature that let’s us use any shutter speed on the camera, so we can use a larger aperture and control our depth of field.

What You’ll Learn:

• High-speed sync feature

• How to create a black background outdoors

What to Bring:

• Camera

• 1-2 lenses

• Memory card

• Charged batteries

• Speedlite
