Cinefemme: Talking Creative Tech

January 30, 2018
7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Free Seminar
Canon Burbank
3400 West Olive Ave Suite 250
Burbank, California 91505

Tonight award-winning DPs, Producers, and Directors of Cinefemme share with us their creative and technical processes for their music videos, trailers, clips, doc and narrative short films projected on Canon Realis 4K600STZ 4K Laser LCOS Projector. The evening will consist of technical and creative discussions around their films, the challenges of funding, producing, equipment and distribution. There will be a good portion of the evening with Q+A and a live demo on Canon’s newest Cinema equipment.

Panelists include Cinefemme Executive Director/Founder Michelle Kantor, director, and producer of Red Star: River To Freedom. Kantor crowd funded $25,000 on Seed and Spark to document the story of her father, the only man to escape Communist Czechoslovakia by scuba diving. She traveled with the EOS 5D Mark III to the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Austria to retrace her father’s escape. Cinefemme Board Member and resident DP Kimby Caplan received the Student Academy Award from AMPAS for directing in 2005 and is often hired for Cinefemme projects. She will be showcasing her Canon-shot director's reel.

Since 2002, Cinefemme has been dedicated to launching the work and careers of women filmmakers. Cinefemme incubates films by women filmmakers and is the only West Coast non-profit organization with a fiscal sponsorship program exclusively dedicated to projects helmed by women-identified directors, producers, and writers. We provide consultation and real project support from conception, fundraising, production, exhibition, and distribution... creating infrastructure and direct pipelines to professional opportunities that otherwise may be inaccessible. Our other programs - which focus on mentorship, community, and visibility- include Dinner With Dames, the Cinefemme Directors Collectives (chapters in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York), the Bluestocking Film Festival, and The Test Podcast. Cinefemme's mission is to change the cultural narrative by getting more diverse voices and stories heard, and with over 40 fiscal sponsors and 100 members, we are making a uniquely significant mark for women in the film industry. We are dedicated to both above and below the line woman.
