EVENT DESCRIPTION:

Documentary photographer and filmmaker Sara Terry has spent the past 20 years creating long-term documentary projects -- and has won grants for her work from Sundance, the Guggenheim Foundation and many others. She also works as a story consultant and grant writer for doc photographers and filmmakers, and has herself been a funder with her grant-making, photography non-profit, The Aftermath Project.

Sara will share some of her long-term photography and cinema work; will talk about how to structure long-term projects and how to write successful grant proposals.

She will illustrate theses successes with film clips and stills of her own work, as a way of illustrating the creative process involved in long-term projects. She'll also give specific examples of grant-writing proposals and discuss the basics of what funders are looking for, and how to write competitive proposals. You will walk away with a greater understanding of the process and closer to that illusive grant for your next project.
